It's impossible to not be aware of the Covid-19 pandemic, and if you're in retail you've probably considered how to optimise your eCommerce site because of it. There are many new challenges and opportunities, and in response Google have announced they are going to assist online merchants through free Google Shopping. It’s the return of “Froogle” - the free service offered around a decade ago by Google before it was monetised.
Google has stated that "Beginning next week, search results on the Google Shopping tab will consist primarily of free listings ". This, combined with further news that they are working hard on simplifying the process to start up google Shopping campaigns, could be a huge boon to retailers who have a lot to offer, but struggle to gain visibility in the market.
We can expect the service changes to roll out for the U.S. by the end of April, and will gradually reach the rest of the world "before the end of the year".
They aren't stopping there either; the internet monolith have also announced a partnership with Paypal to allow merchants to link their accounts through Google, in further efforts to take away any barriers to Google Shopping entry.
When looking into Google Shopping, or any of the other Google Ads services that exist, don't forget that Google are offering free ad credits to users who have spent on their Ad campaigns for ten of the last twelve months, in a bid to support small to medium sized businesses the world over.
