Background

Buy Sheds Direct approached us to support their move to a new Hyvä theme, asking magic42 to deliver the designs. They were looking for eCommerce UX expertise to take advantage of the opportunities to increase conversion rates and average order values. We helped design these elements for their Magento Open Source site, which would use Hyvä to bring about the speed improvements Buy Sheds Direct were looking for.

Wireframing

We worked with Buy Sheds Direct’s eCommerce director and eCommerce manager to help design and develop complex UX solutions for their website. In order to showcase the UX elements they were looking for, we used Balsamiq to create wireframes of their new site designs and its functionality. This allowed us to focus entirely on the UX and key messaging put across to customers and best convince them to upgrade their shed choices. Through presenting this through wireframing, the subsequent design phase was completed in a far quicker time frame.

Buy Sheds Direct PLP designs by magic42

PLP Design

We designed a new three column layout for the desktop view of Buy Shed Direct’s new PLPs. This enabled core buying information to be visible above the fold, whilst allowing easily accessible anchor links to go to more detailed product information such as dimensions, delivery information and more. Customers could then engage with appropriate sections of the site whilst seeing crucial messages related to the buying decision.

Category Landing Page Journey

We worked with Buy Sheds Direct to understand the quality of their product catalogue and what needed more visibility to improve the customer journey. Through using clickmapping tools, we were able to track customer interactions with the website to help improve the UX. This led to a design that included journeys such as searching for and grouping sheds by type, by size, promotional items and personally recommended products using Nosto (product recommendation solution).

Upselling Project

Buy Sheds Direct realised their current user journeys were not successfully upselling their more premium sheds, so spotted an opportunity to do this. We worked with them to create a way to present their more premium shed options, using a clear table with the features and benefits for the PDP. Once the customer clicked ‘add to basket’, they were able to buy the standard shed and were presented with a new pop up that showed a ‘good’, ‘better’ and ‘best’ upsell options.

One-click Upgrades

As part of the upselling process, we needed to do a proof of concept to add a button that would add an upgraded product and remove the previous one with just a click. We developed a solution that linked the products intelligently in Magento Open Source, working effectively with the platform’s bundle options. Customers could then intuitively add their upgraded shed to their basket as part of a streamlined customer journey, whilst improving Buy Sheds Direct’s revenue.
